Dr. Daniel Boisclair

Dr. Daniel Boisclair has a B.Sc. (1981) from the Université Laval in Animal Ecology, and a M.Sc. (1984) and a PhD (1989) from McGill University in Fish Ecology. He spent one year as a Post-doctoral fellow at the Pacific Biological Station (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Nanaimo, BC), then began his academic career in the Département de sciences biologiques of the Université de Montréal in 1989, and became a Professor at the same institution in 2000.  He has been a member of the Groupe de Recherche Interuniversitaire en Limnologie (1990-), and a member of the Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche sur le Saumon Atlantique (1995-) since the creation of both of these groups. Dr. Boisclair has served as the Coordinator of the Freshwater Ecology Group of the Université de Montréal (1995-2006), the Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (1997-2008), and the Chair of the Strategic Committee for the creation of NSERC HydroNet (2007-2009). He has been a member of a number of grant and/or scholarship committees (FQRNT-Équipe; NSERC-DFO Joint Grant Program; NSERC-Strategic Projects; NSERC-Strategic Networks) and President (FQRNT-Équipe; FQRNT-Post-doctoral scholarships). He contributed to the organisation of workshops (Establishment of a National Research Network to Assess the Impacts of Altered Flow Regimes on Riverine Ecosystems; 2007), as well as national (Canadian Conference for Fisheries Research; 2007) and international (American Fisheries Society; 2003) conferences. Throughout his career, Dr. Boisclair has trained 21 M.Sc. students, 5 PhD students, and 4 Post-doctoral fellows. In addition, he has published 60 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Presently, he is supervising 3 M.Sc. and 3 PhD students, and is the Scientific Director of NSERC HydroNet (2009-).
